Practically everybody who has ever tried alcoholic beverage has had occasion where they regretted their action the following morning. While moderate drinking provides a somewhat rested feeling when you wake up, a night of mindless inebriation and debauchery mostly results in a dry mouth and throat, fatigued muscles, a throbbing headache, and basically a body that absolutely hates you.

And this is not that surprising considering what you put it through the night before. But don’t worry though, as there are a few simple things you can do so that you won’t have to suffer in that condition for too long.

But before we get to that though, let us first determine what a hangover is. Putting aside all of the descriptions of the delightful sensations you get while in that state as already stated above, the reason why they occur is mostly caused by dehydration. Try to remember the events of last night. Do you recall urinating like there was no tomorrow? You do? Good.

That was how you lost most of the water inside your body as contrary to what your drunken mind had thought at the time, drinking beer, tequila and vodka does not qualify as hydration. Having those beverages actually makes you lose more electrolytes than you take in and electrolytes are what constitute for a healthier hydrated state rather than the liquid forms that you often see.

So now that we have that out of the way, let us proceed to actually getting rid of the damn thing. By the way, a lot of these are products that you either have to eat or drink. So if you are a heavy drinker and don’t want to suffer the after effects, you might want to stack them up.

Bananas

While doing said peeing, not only have you expelled a lot of bodily fluids, you have also ejected a lot of your body’s nutrients. One of them is potassium, which is quite essential in making sure you don’t feel like the walking dead. Eating bananas will replenish your lost potassium to get it on a level where you will feel energized again. So munch on as much of it as you can.

Energy drink

You know those commercials where they claim that their sports drink replenishes your body’s electrolytes faster than water? Well fortunately for you, this is true. So chugging a bottle when having a hangover is one of the better things you can do.

Honey + Lemon + Hot water = Relief

If you want a more refined solution, you could try for a cup of this tonic which functions much like tea. Apart from hydrating you, the ingredients will compete with alcohol for metabolism, slowing it down and reducing your discomfort.

Fruit juice

If either of those two refreshments is not very appealing to you, then you could also go for fruit juice, especially the freshly squeezed kind. Not only does it provide you with the necessary liquids, it also gives you plenty of natural sugar to get your energy spiking.

Water

If you have none of those things or for some reason your refreshment of choice boils down to just water and anything with alcohol in it, guzzling glasses of water will do the job, provided you drink enough. It might make you feel bloated and you might pee more often than you would care to, but it is necessary to get you back to healthy hydrated levels.

Soup

If you want a compromise between food and drink, then perhaps a nice, hot soup will do the trick. It can provide you with proper nutrients and liquid to get rid of your aches and pains, plus the energy to get out of bed or couch or floor.
